SENATOR BRUNO ANNOUNCES $2.5 MILLION FOR SPAC IMPROVEMENTS

Investment Will Fund New SPAC Exterior

Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced $2.5 million in State funds to renovate the exterior of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The investment will pay for the third phase of SPAC renovations to make it a better facility for artists and patrons.

"With the summer season almost upon us, I’m very pleased to announce this important investment in the Capital Region’s most beautiful arts and entertainment venue," Senator Bruno said. "When this project is complete, we will have been able to remake SPAC inside and out, to improve the facility’s appearance, convenience and comfort for artists and patrons. The SPAC renovations, combined with other planned improvements, will ensure that Saratoga State Park continues to be a prime destination for tourists and Capital Region residents to enjoy."

Senator Bruno was joined at the news conference at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga State Park by SPAC President and Executive Director Marcia White, SPAC Chairman Bill Dake, and State Parks Commissioner Carol Ash.

"These funds will transform the facade of our amphitheater with a new design that is modern and environmentally-friendly and will visually convey the reality, that this treasured cultural landmark has entered an exciting new era in its history," SPAC President and Executive Director Marcia White, said. "We are grateful for Senator Bruno’s leadership and support that he has provided every step of the way as SPAC’s most dedicated advocate."

The funds for the SPAC project are included in the 2008-09 State budget as part of an overall $132 million capital plan to make improvements at State parks throughout New York.

In previous years, Senator Bruno has obtained State investments to renovate the interior of the facility, replace seating, lighting, stairways and restrooms, as well as improve the artist rehearsal and dressing room areas.
