BRUNO ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR SARATOGA CITY CENTER PROJECT
Senator Joseph L. Bruno today announced that he has secured an additional $6 million to help fund the rehabilitation and expansion of the Saratoga City Center. These funds fulfill Senator Bruno’s original commitment of $12 million towards this project, with the first $6 million provided back in 2006. "As Saratoga continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the State, it is important that the City of Saratoga Springs has a venue that can attract larger conventions, conferencess and trade shows," Senator Bruno said. "This increased activity will spur additional economic activity, creating new jobs while generating more revenue for the local and State governments." "When it comes to supporting efforts to strengthen our local economy, there has been no greater advocate on our behalf than Senator Bruno," Saratoga Springs Mayor Scott Johnson said. "On behalf of the residents of our city, I would like to thank him for providing the funds that will help make the City Center a world class venue." "The funding secured by Senator Bruno is vital to our efforts in making Saratoga Springs a magnet for conventions and visitors year round," City Center Authority Chairman Michael Toohey said. "Senator Bruno understands the positive impact that the City Center expansion will have on local businesses, attracting tens of thousands of new visitors and adding millions to the local economy." The Saratoga City Center was built in 1984. The project, which is projected to cost more than $17 million and take 14 to 16 months to complete, will expand the facility from 52,500 square feet to 80,130 square feet. The expansion will enable the City Center to increase exhibit space, host a variety of different activities for the same convention at the same time and host multiple events on the same day. ####
