Capital Campaign raises $4.8 million; Senator Bruno says "stay tuned" for more support
Friday, April 7, 2006
Senator Joseph L. Bruno joined staff from the Saratoga YMCA and members of the YMCA Capital Campaign Committee today to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new facility on West Avenue in Saratoga.
"As Saratoga County communities continue to grow and prosper, the construction of the new YMCA facility will give families more opportunities to experience the benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle," Senator Bruno said.
The 75,000 square foot facility is in the early stages of construction and will sit on a 25-acre parcel which will be more easily accessible to members from the city and surrounding communities. Upon completion, the new YMCA will provide members access to a state of the art fitness center, 8 lane pool and elevated track. Programs and services will include childcare, a teen center as well social areas for community activities.
"This milestone has become a reality due to the efforts and contributions of the many donors throughout the community and the Capital Campaign volunteers. To date $4.8 million has been raised toward the $10 million project goal." reported Jim Letts, YMCA of Saratoga CEO.
Membership, currently at 13,000, is projected to increase to 18,000-20,000 in the coming years and will allow the Saratoga YMCA to consolidate operations currently located at Broadway and in Wilton.
