Hospitals Will Provide Cardiac Catheterization Services to Rensselaer County
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
Senator Joseph L. Bruno and Seton Health recently announced the opening of its new Cardiac Catheterization Lab at St. Mary's Hospital. The Lab is an initiative of the Rensselaer Regional Heart Institute, a joint venture with Samaritan Hospital. Patients need no longer travel to Albany or elsewhere to have this procedure - it can now be done here in town.
Cardiac Catheterization is a procedure through which doctors can determine if there is disease in the coronary arteries. During the test, dye is injected into the coronary arteries, which makes it possible for the doctor to locate and determine the size of any narrowing or blockages. This test is usually done to determine whether a patient requires angioplasty or heart bypass surgery, and these tests will now be provided at both Samaritan and St. Mary's hospitals.
"This is an important day for residents of Rensselaer County as the opening of this facility will save lives while providing patients with convenient access to a very valuable and needed service," Senator Bruno said.
