SENATOR BRUNO HAILS PROPOSED HOTEL, CONFERENCE CENTER IN TROY

Project will create 150 jobs, spur economic opportunities

Senator Joseph L. Bruno joined with Hoosick Hospitality LLC and local officials in Troy Tuesday morning to announce that a major hotel development, consisting of a select-service hotel, banquet facility, and conference center, will be built along Hoosick Street in Troy.

 

"This proposal will create jobs and new economic opportunities while supporting our efforts to continue the exciting revitalization that is currently taking place in the City of Troy," Senator Joseph L. Bruno said. "This development will allow business travelers and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy fine dining and the warm hospitality right here in Troy."

 

Hoosick Hospitality has applied to the Hilton Garden Inn for the Hoosick Street franchise. As the developer of the recently completed Albany Medical Center project, it is confident in securing the flag for the Hoosick Street venture. The development will include 125 rooms, two restaurants (10,000 square feet total), 13,000 square feet of meeting space, and 5,000 square feet of space suitable for retail that will include a bank or coffee shop. The restaurants will consist of a high-end steakhouse, and the latest edition of the Recovery Room Sports Grill, of which the first is located locally on New Scotland Avenue.

 

Donald Led Duke, member of Hoosick Hospitality LLC explained Tuesday that the benefits of the project would be felt throughout the City of Troy for a number of reasons. The company expects 95 permanent jobs to be created by the development, and an additional 75 temporary construction jobs.

 

Led Duke said the 3.74 acre Hoosick Street site is prime for the hotel development due to its close proximity to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Samaritan Hospital, and Saint Mary�s Hospital.  Hoosick Street and Route 7 is also the gateway for people coming from New York City and other points west and south and the developer expects this Hotel to be a convenient stop on the way to and from Southern Vermont.

 

As the first major development project to be announced along Hoosick Street in many years, Troy Mayor Harry Tutunjian said Tuesday he is excited about the potential of the Hoosick Hospitality project, and the credibility it will lend for future redevelopment there.

 

�Hoosick Street is an untapped resource for development; it has been for some time,� Tutunjian said. �As one of the most heavily traveled roads in the Capital District, we have always said that more must be done to capitalize on the traffic flows here, and the visitors we should attract from around the area. The Hoosick Hospitality is the first of what I believe will be many exciting ventures taking place along Hoosick Street in the next decade.�
