$22.4 Million Construction Project To Reduce Traffic Flow Through Village
Monday, October 22, 2007
New York State Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced that $22.4 million has been secured for the construction of the Round Lake Bypass in the Village of Round Lake and Town of Malta in Saratoga County. The bypass will help significantly alleviate traffic congestion through the village and is another important step in the economic development of Saratoga County.
"Todays announcement is outstanding news for the residents of Round Lake and Saratoga County," said Senator Bruno. "From the beginning we realized the potential that the bypass project would have for not only reducing traffic congestion problems, but providing another crucial link for the further development of Luther Forest. This project will improve the quality of life for village residents while at the same time boost job creation efforts that will benefit the entire Capital Region.
The bypass will consist of a 1.6-mile, two-lane road which will be constructed with one rotary on the eastern end at the intersection of State Routes 9 and 67 and the other rotary on the western end at Curry Road, near Exit 11 of Interstate 87. The project is expected to be completed in 2009.
"Round Lake is an historic community," said Senator Bruno. "This construction project will provide a new traffic route that allows the village to keep its quiet charm and at the same time allows for new economic development opportunities for the fast-growing Saratoga County corridor."
Funding for the project was secured through a three-way negotiated agreement on capital as part of the Five-Year Transportation Capital Plan of 2005.
