STATEMENT BY SENATE MAJORITY LEADER JOSEPH L. BRUNO
Bruno Reelected Majority Leader
Tuesday, November 28, 2000
I want to thank my colleagues in the Senate Republican Majority Conference for reelecting me to a fourth term as Temporary President and Majority Leader. I appreciate their support and the confidence in my leadership. During the next two years we will continue to address issues that are critically important to the lives of every New Yorker.
Over the past six years our conference has partnered with Governor George Pataki to improve the quality of life in New York State by creating new jobs, reducing taxes and crime, improving education, health care and our environment. This year was extremely productive. To cite just a few accomplishments -- we expanded the EPIC prescription drug assistance program to help more seniors afford medications; we enacted a tuition tax deduction to help families afford a college education; and we enacted new measures to crack down on crime and violence on our streets and in our schools.
As we move further into the new millennium we face new challenges. We must continue to make New York more economically competitive to encourage high technology job growth. We must continue to reduce the tax burden on residents and businesses. We must do more to ensure the highest quality education and health care. The Senate Majority Conference will work closely with Governor Pataki to address these and other important issues in the 2001 legislative session.
