2006-07 EDUCATION AID-CHECK TO SEE WHAT YOUR SCHOOLS CAN EXPECT

The 2006-07 State budget that was passed by the Legislature on March 31 will include more than $341 million for schools in Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties. In his review of the budget, the Governor has agreed with the Legislature�s recommendations for school aid and will accept our proposed increases for the final spending plan.

I believe that schools must have the resources they need to educate our children, and this budget will include an additional $14 million to aid in the education of the children of Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties. We have also invested $22 million in school construction aid for these schools, providing our children access to safe, modern classrooms and facilities in a safe environment.

The new State budget will provide $159 million, a $7.1 million increase over last year�s funding, for schools in Rensselaer County and $182 million, a $7.2 million increase over last year�s funding for schools in Saratoga County.

Once again, New York State is getting results by providing for record increases in school aid for our children. The funding in this budget represents real education dollars that can be utilized directly in the classroom and will give schools and teachers in Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties the necessary resources to provide our children with a world-class education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st Century.

The following list provides the breakdown of what each school district that I represent in Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties is projected to receive through the 2006-07 budget and how much of an increase from last year:
