Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, along with the Shenendehowa Senior Center, today announced that he has secured $35,000 in funds from the 2004-05 state budget for Shenendehowa Senior Citizens, Inc. to support their shuttle bus service to transport seniors in Clifton Park and Malta.
"The money from Senator Bruno's office, through the New York State Office for the Aging, is vital for us. It allowed us to operate our Shuttle last year and will help us run the Shuttle again this year," said Maia Newman, Executive Director of Shenendehowa Senior Citizens, Inc. "We really appreciate Senator Bruno's support."
"The shuttle service the Shenendehowa Senior Center provides to community seniors allowing them to get to their medical appointments and attend community events is invaluable," said Senator Bruno. "Senior citizens are an integral part of a community, and when they remain active and involved, the individual and the community both benefit."
The shuttle bus service, operated by the Shenendehowa Senior Center, transports senior citizens to medical appointments and at activities at the Senior Center. The communities it serves have no public transportation and limited, costly taxi service.
