Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today participated in a local ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the museums new location and name change. The former Junior Museum will now be referred to as the Childrens Museum of Science and Technology and is located in the Rensselaer Tech Park.
"It has been acknowledged over and over that young people learn by being exposed, by being hands on, by making it interesting, by making it fun," said Senator Bruno. "What is more important than science and technology in our lives - nothing, it effects all of our lives. There are young people and adults who are all going to be better for the experience that they are going to have here."
"We are delighted to partner with science and technology leaders in the community, especially Senator Bruno, celebrating our grand opening with us," said Maggie Vinciguerra, President of the Board of Trustees. "The Children's Museum of Science and Technology can offer the Capital Region an exciting new way to educate and inspire our children and we couldnt be more excited to see the faces of the children and adults that will come here for a great experience."
Over one hundred Averill Park Elementary students attended the grand opening of the not-for-profit museum. The Childrens Museum of Science and Technology is aimed at providing exhibits, educational programs and activities, and exciting hands-on opportunities for children to learn history, science, technology and art. Among the many exhibits at the museum include a planetarium, a live animal nursery and a Hudson River exhibit with a waterfall and tidal touch pool. The museum is located at 250 Jordan Road in the Rensselaer Tech Park in Troy. For more information, visit the web site at www.juniormuseum.org.
