Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno and the Saratoga County Soil & Water Conservation District today announced that Senator Bruno has obtained $8,000 in funds from the 2004-05 state budget to install non-pressurized fire hydrants in Saratoga County in order to increase fire companies' access to water and improve their capabilities to combat fires.
"Each year, fire causes thousands of dollars in damage to homes, businesses, and property," said Senator Bruno. "Providing the funds to install non-pressurized hydrants in Saratoga County will help ensure that communities have adequate accessibility to water year-round and aid fire fighters in their efforts, which in turn will help reduce the amount of damage these communities suffer because of fires. I am pleased that I could supply these funds to help the Soil & Water Conservation District further insure the safety and welfare of the residents of Saratoga County."
"We will begin working with fire companies in the spring and summer to install the new hydrants," said John Hamilton, Field Manager of the Saratoga County Soil & Water Conservation District. "We are grateful to Senator Bruno for his support, as this funding will allow us to help fire districts provide protection to many homes and businesses."
The funds will be used to purchase hydrant materials, including the strainer, hydrant head and pipe, to install non-pressurized hydrants in the communities of Galway, Milton, Stillwater, Malta, Saratoga, Northumberland, and Moreau. Local government and volunteers will provide the necessary labor and equipment to install the hydrants.
