Statement by Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno
Saturday, February 19, 2005
The announcement that the 400 employees of the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) are going to relocate to the Phoenix office facility in North Greenbush is tremendous economic news for Rensselaer County.
This means another 400 people who will be contributing to the countys economy and ensuring that a major office facility continues to be occupied and vibrant. The move, which will consolidate four separate existing NYISO offices in Albany County, also makes sense because it will make the NYISO more efficient by having its employees in one location.
The good economic news is compounded by the fact that the 250 employees of the Phoenix Companys operations center will stay in Rensselaer County, in new space at the East Greenbush Technology Park.
When you combine the jobs that are coming with the jobs being retained here, thats 650 jobs that will strengthen Rensselaer Countys economy, build the local tax base and contribute to revenues that fund our schools, police, road maintenance and all the other services that add to our quality of life.
