Investment Will Secure Site for Future High Tech Development & New Jobs
Wednesday, July 6, 2005
Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced that he has secured a $4.8 million State investment for the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Saratoga County. The investment will go toward the purchase of 1,186 acres in Malta and Stillwater for the development of computer chip fabrication facilities that will create more than 12,000 new jobs.
"The Luther Forest campus is considered by people in the high technology industry to be the best location in the country for the development of ChipFab facilities, and for good reason," Senator Bruno said. "We will have plenty of water available for chip manufacturing, we will have a site that is shovel-ready, we already have a rapidly-developing core of high tech, biotech and nanotech businesses in the Capital Region and weve got some of the finest academic institutions in the country.
"When the Luther Forest Technology Campus is fully developed, more than 12,000 people will be employed here in good, high paying jobs making the next generation of computer chips," Senator Bruno said. "We are building the foundation for a project that will attract businesses from around the world and strengthen the economy of the Capital Region."
Rep. John Sweeney said, "Senator Bruno and I have worked closely at the state and federal level to enhance the economic opportunities at Luther Forest. Luther Forest is nationally known as a high tech leader and the untapped potential is still unfolding. I have worked at the federal level to secure over $16 million for projects supporting their efforts and I applaud Senator Bruno for his strong efforts at the state level to move this campus forward. We will continue to work closely with the businesses surrounding Luther Forest and work to attract additional state of the art technology companies to the area to bring this campus to its full potential."
"Senator Bruno has been a strong supporter of Luther Forest every step of the way and the end result will be a world-class location for the semiconductor industry and a stronger economy and thousands of jobs for Saratoga County and the Capital Region," Ken Green, President of the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation, said. "This project has evolved over the past several years, there is a positive buzz throughout the industry about it and the project has gained tremendous momentum."
The capital investment announced today comes from the 2005-06 State budget. After the purchase of the additional property, which must be completed by July 11, 2005, the Luther Forest Campus will total 1,350 acres.
The Saratoga Technology and Energy Park, adjacent to the Campus, is home to DayStar Technologies, a developer and manufacturer of solar cells that convert sunlight into energy; and to Starfire Systems, a manufacturer of high-temperature silicon carbide materials.
