Monday, July 18, 2005
For all the "Joes" in the Capital Region, tonight means "take me out to the ballgame," because it will be "Joe Night" at The Joe, courtesy of Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno.
Senator Bruno recently announced that he has purchased 5,000 tickets and has donated them to area youth organizations to celebrate "Joe Night" at The Joe this evening, when the Tri-City ValleyCats play host to the Aberdeen Ironbirds in a New York Penn League baseball game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. In addition, anyone presenting a driver's license indicating that their name is "Joe" will receive free admission to the stadium, as well as a T-shirt reading "I Met Joe at the Joe."
"Getting children to become more active and to make healthy lifestyle choices is a critical step toward their future development," said Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno. "Whether your name is 'Joe' or you are a young kid who loves baseball, "Joe Night" at The Joe brings our communities together for an evening to enjoy the pleasures of America's pasttime."
In an effort to encourage kids to exercise and incorporate healthy choices into their everyday lifestyles, the Coca-Cola Company will generously donate stepometers to the first 4,000 children attending the game as part of their "Live It!" fitness program. Gowana Middle School in Clifton Park, one of the organizations attending tonight's contest, was one of the first schools in the nation to test the "Live It!" fitness program. Coca-Cola will also provide a choice of water, lemonade or iced-tea to each attendee at the ballgame.
"The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York is proud to partner with Senator Bruno and the youth of the greater Albany/ Troy area in promoting the "Live It!" health and fitness initiative," said Bob Lanz, Vice President of Public Affairs for Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York. "'Live It!' is designed to help people build healthy lifestyles by encouraging physical activity and nutrition education as a way of life."
"We are extremely excited to be hosting the first ever "Joe Night" at The Joe," said R.C. Reuteman, Vice President and General Manager of the Tri-City ValleyCats. "Tonight's festivities will allow "Joes," and little leaguers and youngsters of all ages an opportunity to enjoy a great night at the ballpark. I sincerely wish to thank Senator Bruno for his generosity and commitment to children throughout the Capital Region."
Senator Bruno will throw out the first pitch and will be on the baseball field to take a photo with all of the "Joes" attending the baseball game. In addition, Paramount Pictures will donate over 400 movie tickets to an advanced screening of the Bad News Bears. Additional promotional merchandise will be given out by Radio Disney in between innings.
"I want to thank all of our partners, especially Coca-Cola, for making tonight such an enjoyable treat for our kids," said Senator Bruno. "By working together, we can teach our children the value of healthy living, and have fun in the process."
Youth organizations attending "Joe Night" at The Joe include: Gowana Middle School in Clifton Park, The Pediatric Center at Albany Med, Brunswick Little League, Brunswick Girls Softball, Brunswick Babe Ruth, South Troy Little League, Spring Little League, East Greenbush Little League, Twin Town Little League, Lansingburgh Little League, and the Southern Rensselaer County Boys & Girls Club.
Game time for the Tri-City ValleyCats vs. the Aberdeen Ironbirds is 7:00p.m. Gates will open at 6:00p.m. Tonight's game is sold out to the public -- unless, of course, your name is Joe.
