X-Ray Optical Systems to Increase Workforce at East Greenbush Facility

Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced that he has secured a $500,000 grant from the 2005-06 State budget for X-Ray Optical Systems, a technology production firm based in East Greenbush, to assist them in purchasing manufacturing and research equipment. The funding will also allow the firm to expand their workforce by 30-60 positions at their East Greenbush facility.
"Today's announcement is another solid indicator that the Capital District/Tech Valley Region is becoming a technology hot-spot and a 21st Century global leader in high-tech research and product development," said Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno. "This capital investment will provide X-Ray Optical Systems with the funding necessary to continue manufacturing high-tech products and create new jobs that will assist us in cultivating and retaining a highly-skilled workforce right here in the Capital Region."
"Tech Valley has become a reality because Senator Joe Bruno not only understands business, he has taken the time to understand the technology sector," said David Gibson, CEO of X-Ray Optical Systems. "He has carefully and effectively laid the groundwork to allow technology companies to grow and prosper here. His efforts will result in prosperity for the Capital Region for many years to come."
The $500,000 in state funding will allow X-Ray Optical Systems to purchase manufacturing and research equipment, as well as retain intellectual property through patents that will prevent competitors from copying their work. The grant will also permit the company to receive federal matching funds from the National Science Foundation.
The company also announced today that they will be one of the recipients of the R&D 100 Awards in the September 12th issue of Research and Development Magazine. The honor is awarded to the 100 most important commercially introduced innovations each year. X-Ray Optical has been recognized for this award three times within the last two years.
