Senate Majority Leader, Joseph L. Bruno today announced the launch of the annual Capital Region Coats for Kids Campaign and urged people to donate new and used coats for area children in need.
"As the cold weather creeps in on us, lets make sure every child in the Capital Region will be warm and healthy," said Senator Bruno, Honorary Chair of this years Coats for Kids Campaign. "We must do all we can to help the families who need it most, especially with the cost of home heating oil and fuel skyrocketing."
More than 90 cleaners and 30 regional distributors are involved in the Coats for Kids Campaign. Participating area dry cleaners will collect the coats and clean them for free before they are donated to the children. Counties participating are: Rensselaer, Saratoga, Albany, Columbia, Fulton-Montgomery, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren-Hamilton and Washington.
"A new coat does more for children than keep them warm. It helps build self confidence and gives an incentive to strive for more and to do better in school," said Senator Bruno.
"Setting an example of compassion is the best way for us to celebrate all that we are thankful for during the holiday season."
