BRUNO ANNOUNCES IMPROVEMENTS TO TROY RIVERFRONT PARK

Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno (R-C, Brunswick) today announced at a groundbreaking ceremony that work was beginning on a project to improve river access and river views at Riverfront Park and make improvements to the Troy Town Dock and Marina.

"I am pleased to have been able to secure the funding needed to make these improvements to the Troy Riverfront a reality. The new and improved waterfront presents tremendous opportunities to the people of Troy, Rensselaer County and the entire Capital Region," Senator Bruno said. "This investment will pay big dividends by creating a scenic location for community events and family recreation, promoting the area as a tourism destination and connecting the city of Troy to the waterfront which has been so important to our common heritage."

"This project represents a major improvement to Troy's premier Riverside Park," said Mayor Pattison. "We will open up the view of the river at the Bandshell and improve the riverside walkway and boat access between the Bandshell and State Street. It represents another key investment in the recreation facilities of the city. We are very appreciative to Senator Bruno for his continued help in these efforts."

These funds are part of a $400,000 grant secured by Senator Bruno in 1998 to revitalize Troy's Waterfront on the Hudson River. To date, $220,000 of the funds have been used create an architectural master plan and make improvements to the Troy Town Dock and Marina, including repairs to existing docks, installation of new docks, electric and utility work and improvements to boat landings and gates.

This phase of the project will include $148,000 of improvements to widen the promenade walk along the river, remove overgrown shrubs and deceased trees, install new lighting, make repairs to the top of the river wall and improve boat landing and ramp access near the City Bandshell and at State Street, including provisions to relocate the Captain J.P. Cruisline vessel to the State Street location.
