Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced the state has awarded grants to strengthen criminal justice and victim services that combat violence against women in New York State.
"We must continue our unwavering efforts to strengthen the criminal justice system so that anyone considering this crime will know that violence against women will absolutely not be tolerated in New York State," said Senator Larkin. "These grants will help further protect women and will provide the critical services that victims need."
Grants were awarded to 110 organizations to help fund direct services provided by district attorneys, police departments, courts, and victim service organizations.
The Orange County Mental Health Association will receive $30,000 to provide sexual assault examiner services.
In Ulster County, the Department of Social Services (DOSS) will receive $70,000 to continue the Family Violence Investigative Unit, a collaborative effort between law enforcement, DOSS, and the District Attorney's Office for a coordinated approach to the investigation of domestic violence cases.
In addition, the Ulster County District Attorney's Office will receive $15,000 to oversee the implementation of a sexual assault examiner program.
