Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno (R-C, Brunswick) today announced over $206,000 in state funds to support local libraries, provide aid for construction and improve the technology in our school library systems.
"We cannot underestimate the value of libraries for communities throughout New York State," said Senator Bruno. "I am thrilled to announce that these funds will allow our local libraries to better serve their patrons and help more New Yorkers take full advantage of this valuable resource."
Senator Bruno explained that more than half of the State funding is provided for a 3.4 percent across the board increase in local assistance to libraries, which includes additional support for: Public Library Systems; Local Library Services Aid; Reference and Research Library Resource Systems; Designated Library Aid which includes funding for construction, coordinated outreach programs, and central library aid; New York Public Library; and School Library Systems.
In addition, a portion of the new funds is provided for library capital grants as well as grants for the improvement of technology in our school library systems.
"I am also pleased that this will provide much needed funds for structural and accessibility improvements of our libraries," said Senator Bruno. "In addition, it will also help more of our students reap the benefits created by today's technological advances."
