The tragic and untimely death of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt has left a void in the hearts of many fans across the nation and leaves behind memories of a legend whose lifetime was filled with notable achievements.
I am fortunate to have met "the Intimidator" in person while acting as grand marshal for the Global Crossing at the NASCAR Winston Cup Race last August in Watkins Glen. Without a doubt the most thrilling aspect of the day, more exciting than announcing the start of the race itself, was my unexpected encounter with Dale Earnhardt. I was impressed by his calm demeanor before the race and I remember how direct he was, always looking right at you when he spoke.
Dale Earnhardt's impressive career spanned 25 seasons with 76 wins and seven titles. He was known as an aggressive competitor, determined to win every race he participated in. He also had a reputation for being intimidating but he earned the respect of many, even NASCAR competitors and racing fans who either liked or disliked his unique style and aggressiveness on the track.
Whether or not you follow NASCAR racing, Dale Earnhardt is a name most have heard before and his presence will be greatly missed on the racing circuit.
