Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today sponsored a resolution honoring the Hudson Valley Community College hockey team who won the National Junior College Athletic Association Region III Championship in March.
"In securing the national championship, the Vikings displayed not only superior talent and skills but tremendous determination and heart," said Senator Bruno. "I offer my congratulations to Coach Ron Kuhl and the players who have represented their school and our community with honor and pride."
The HVCC Vikings twice defeated the Minot State University-Bottineau Lumberjacks (North Dakota) on the Lumberjacks' home ice to capture the NJCAA title. The Vikings won the first game 5-2 as B.J. Sheehan had 48 saves. The next day, the Vikings defeated the Lumberjacks 9-7 led by Mike Paine's two goals, including the game winner.
