Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno recently received the Carl L. Smith Award -- the highest honor of the Troy Uniformed Firefighters Association. Senator Bruno was recognized for his outstanding efforts to assist Troy firefighters, including the enactment of a law in 1995 that allowed the Troy firefighters to establish a municipal ambulance service. Senator Bruno was also able to assist the Troy Firefighters in obtaining distressed cities aid that has enabled them to purchase new vehicles and equipment.
"To be presented with this award among firefighters, people who have risked their lives for the sake of others, and among those who have spent their lives advocating for the Troy Fire Department is truly a great honor," Senator Bruno said. "In my service to the City of Troy, the rest of my district and of the state, I have been committed to ensuring that the firefighters have the resources and funding necessary to do their jobs effectively and safely."
Senator Bruno was presented with the Carl L. Smith Award award on Friday, April 27th during a dinner held at the Sunset Banquet house in Lansingburgh. It was the first time that the award has been presented to an individual who was not a firefighter.
