Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today attended the groundbreaking for WMHTs new digital telecommunications facility in North Greenbush. This new state of the art facility located in Rensselaer Technology Park will be a significant upgrade of the outdated broadcast system that is currently in use.
"WMHTs new digital broadcast center is yet another example of our continuing efforts to expand high-tech business in Rensselaer and the Capital Region," said Senator Bruno. "This facility will enhance the stations entertainment and educational programming, creating a more interactive and personalized system for its viewers -- both children and adults."
Senator Bruno provided $500,000 in funding for the new digital facility, expected to be completed by Fall 2003. It will house public television and radio stations WMHT-TV and WMHT/WRHV-FM and RISE, the Capital Regions radio reading service.
In addition to greatly expanded studio production capabilities, new technology for educational purposes, and public meeting space, the digital facility will allow the broadcast of up to four television programs simultaneously. The facility will also house the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center and a new learning studio to help give area teachers and students access to the most advanced educational tools.
