Ralph Marino
Monday, April 8, 2002
I am saddened by the news that Ralph Marino died earlier this morning. Ralph was a good friend and colleague for more than 25 years and I know I speak for all current and former members of the Senate in expressing our sorrow and deepest sympathies to his family and many friends.
Ralph and I may have had political or philosophical disagreements over the years but we always maintained our friendship and I respected his advice and counsel. I spoke with him just a few weeks ago after ceremonies in which the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway was officially renamed in his honor and he was in good spirits despite his illness.
I spoke today with Ethyl, his wife and devoted partner for almost 50 years, and shared with her our sincerest regrets and the appreciation and gratitude that we and all the people of New York owe Ralph Marino for his stewardship of the Senate and his leadership in the state.
