Wednesday, August 7, 2002
Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced that he obtained $25,000 in funding for the Rensselaer Organizations United for Senior Endeavors (ROUSE) to assist in their transportation expenses. The announcement and check presentation was made at ROUSEs annual picnic.
"I am pleased to able to support this organization which has done a tremendous job providing seniors across Rensselaer County with valuable services -- whether it is helping to secure housing or bringing them to their next appointment," said Senator Bruno. "Purchasing a new van will help ROUSE continue to do their wonderful work helping seniors achieve a greater quality of life."
"I want to thank Senator Bruno for his continued support for this organization and the senior citizen community in Rensselaer," said Norma Fagnant, President of ROUSE. "This funding will help us better serve area seniors who may be in need of our assistance."
The funding, obtained in the 2002-03 state budget, will be used to help ROUSE purchase a new van which will be used to transport seniors to medical appointments, shopping areas, meetings and senior center events.
ROUSE began in 1970 as an advocacy group dedicated to the joining together of individual clubs for the betterment of all seniors residing in Rensselaer County. Working closely with the Rensselaer County Department of Unified Family Services - Aging, ROUSE has been able to develop programs and services to seniors who need assistance.
