Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today joined with City of Rensselaer Mayor Mark Pratt for the official opening of the new boat launch on the Hudson River, north of the Dunn Memorial Bridge. The recently finalized project was funded by $593,850 in state grants secured by Senator Bruno.
"This new boat launch will help enhance the waterfront region of both the City and County of Rensselaer by making the waterfront accessible to the entire Capital Region and its visitors," said Senator Bruno. "Maintaining and improving our connection to the river front is vital to improving our quality of life and strengthening our tourism economy. People of all ages will be able to benefit from its natural, recreational, cultural, and economic value for years to come."
"I thank Senator Bruno for his efforts in helping make this project a reality, and I am proud to be part of such an historic occasion," said Mayor Pratt. "The Hudson River has played an important role in our citys history, and I am confident that by continuing to reconnect with the river through projects like this boat launch, the Hudson will continue to be a central part of our future growth and success."
The boat launch consists of a sizable 2000 square foot launch base to provide access to a large variety of boats, as well as a dock. On the shore, the area surrounding the launch was beautified with the addition of decorative lighting, new picnic tables, fencing and landscaping. Access to the site has been improved with boat launch signs directing traffic from Broadway, a parking lot, roadway improvements, including a turnaround for boat trailers, and installation of a rail crossing signal for safer public access.
