Legislature Provides Full Funding for New York State Teacher Centers
Friday, November 9, 2001
Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno recently met with Rosemary Harrigan, the Executive Director of the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center who thanked the Senator for his continued support of Teacher Centers in New York State. In October, the Senate provided an additional $20 million to restore full funding for these centers.
The Greater Capital Region Teacher Center (GCRTC) provides educators with a wide range of special services designed primarily by education experts. This diverse professional development program helps them perform more efficiently and effectively in the classroom and gives them the opportunity to update, improve, and refine their teaching methods.
"As we continue our commitment to the education of New York students it is imperative that we offer our full support to Teacher Centers throughout the state," said Senator Bruno. "As we hold our students to high standards, it is necessary to do the same for our teachers. Places like the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center help provide educators with the tools and support they need so they can continually improve the educational experience for New York students."
The Greater Capital Region Teacher Center currently works with 18,500 teachers and educators in 96 districts, four BOCES, more than 50 private and parochial schools, and numerous colleges and universities in a fourteen county region surrounding Albany. GCRTC serves the second largest population of the 117 Teacher Centers in New York State.
