$700,000 in State Funding Secured by the Senator for Renovations to Research Labs
Thursday, April 18, 2002
Senator Joseph L. Bruno spoke at the Second Annual Albany Medical Center Dinner at the Franklin Plaza in Troy to honor Dr. Anthony Fauci, and emphasize the importance of biotechnology and biomedical research.
"We in the Capital Region are fortunate to have such an excellent health care facility, but caring for the sick and healing the injured is only part of the mission of a great hospital," said Senator Bruno. "Through the Senates Gen*NY*sis program, we are prepared to invest a half a billion dollars into biomedical and biotechnology research and economic development."
Senator Bruno has secured $700,000 in state funding for the upgrading and renovations of the research labs. Ge*NY*sis will result in a massive investment that will result in New York State having the best researchers, the best teachers and the best lab facilities anywhere, creating new jobs throughout the state.
"Tonight it is very appropriate that we are honoring Dr. Anthony Fauci, a pioneering AIDS researcher and scientific leader for his work on studying diseases of the immune system," said Senator Bruno. "Dr. Fauci has spent three decades doing ground breaking research and Im sure he could speak to the value of a program such as Ge*NY*sis to provide the critical support and resources necessary to do this type of work. Its more than creating jobs, its about treating and preventing disease and saving lives."
