BRUNO ANNOUNCES FUNDS FOR LaSALLE EXPANSION
Thursday, August 29, 2002
Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced that he has secured almost $70,000 in state funds to help finance the expansion of LaSalle Institute in Troy.
"LaSalle Institute is one of the finest schools in the state and I'm very pleased to be able to provide state support for the expansion of the school," Senator Bruno said. "The project helped to create 75 construction jobs, as well as 27 new jobs at the school, while also creating a new gym and cafeteria and other facilities to improve the learning environment at LaSalle. I also want to thank Congressman John Sweeney for his support of this project."
"The grant from the New York State Pipeline for Jobs, provided to La Salle Institute, helped with our Campaign for the 21st Century building project," La Salle Institute's Principal Brother Christopher J. Belleman, FSC said. "We are grateful to both Senator Bruno and Congressman Sweeney for their assistance in helping to secure these funds for this very worthy project. Being able to construct our school's Phase II addition enabled La Salle to enhance the academic experience for our students who come from over 51 school districts and for us to hire additional employees."
LaSalle will receive $67,643 from the state Pipeline for Jobs program to help pay off the debt related to the infrastructure work necessary to expand the school. The project included a new cafeteria, new kitchen, additional full size gymnasium, elevator, wrestling room, locker rooms, athletic directors office, maintenance shop, storage and new athletic fields. The total cost of the project was $4.5 million dollars. The two-story expansion took 10 and a half months and was completed in September 2001.
