Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today broke ground for a new 300 car parking garage in downtown Troy on Fifth Avenue between Broadway and State Street. Senator Bruno obtained a total of $4.5 Million in state funding for the garage.
"The increasing economic development in Troy, combined with the influx of state employees has also increased the demand for parking," Senator Bruno said. "This new garage will help address that need for parking in the central business district to accommodate workers and shoppers."
The new garage will have three levels in addition to the ground level and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2003. It will support the redevelopment of the Stanley Building, the Quackenbush Building, the Albany Savings Bank Building and Proctors Theatre.
State funding for the garage included $2.25 million in the 2000-01 budget and $2.25 million in the 2001-02 budget.
