Senator Secured $10,000 Grant For Commemoration Activities
Saturday, October 19, 2002
State Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today attended a ceremony held at Fort Hardy Park in Schuylerville marking the surrender of the British Army at the Battle of Saratoga. The event was part of the ceremonies commemorating the 225th Anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga taking place throughout this year in the Spa City. "The Battles of Saratoga represent a significant step along our nation's path to independence," said Senator Bruno. "This commemoration is a tribute to everyone who fought so valiantly for the freedoms we cherish today. I am very proud to have been able to assist the Saratoga community in its efforts to celebrate and preserve this important piece of American history."
Senator Bruno secured $10,000 in this year's state budget to help fund the Town of Saratoga's celebration of the 225th Anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga.
Surrender Ceremonies included a grand parade of marching bands, veteran's groups and community members retracing the steps of British General John Burgoyne's army to the Field of Grounded Arms at the Visitor's Center in Hardy Park, and riverfront fireworks.
