Funding Will Help Prevent Flooding
Thursday, October 23, 2003
Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced that he has obtained $110,000 for the Town of Stillwater in order to prevent future flooding in the Riverside area of Stillwater.
"I am pleased to be able to secure this funding to help protect the residents of Stillwater and travelers from the type of flooding we saw last August," said Senator Bruno. "The flooding caused a lot of damage for residents of Stillwaters Riverside Area, this funding will help prevent this type of devastating flooding from recurring."
In August of this year, the Town of Stillwaters South Eastern area suffered major flooding, and homes along the river suffered overwhelming damage. Trailers were knocked off their supports, skirting was washed away, and there was some major damage to home owners foundations and their holdings.
"I am so pleased that Senator Bruno agrees with the need for mitigating any flooding problems that exist in the Riverside Section of our community," said Stillwater Supervisor Paul F. Lilac. "We have a Flood Mitigation Plan that has been approved by the State Emergency Management Office and this money appropriated by the Senator will go a long way to correcting any problems or potential problems associated with flooding. On behalf of the people of the Riverside Area and the entire community of Stillwater, I want to thank Senator Bruno and his staff for working with me on this very important matter."
The project will include installation of a culvert pipe under NYS Route 4&32, so water can flow into the Hudson River. By diverting flood waters, the project will relieve damage to the residences and roadway.
