Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, who created the Task Force on Childrens Health and Safety, today announced the creation of the Childrens Health and Safety web site. The web site is designed to provide information on the Task Forces progress as well as useful information for parents, caregivers, professionals and child abuse prevention advocates.
"This web site will provide a wealth of important information about keeping our children safe and healthy," said Senator Bruno. "The more we know about how to prevent child abuse, the more we can take steps to end this tragic problem. As the Task Force holds hearings across the state, I will be adding new information and updates, so I recommend everyone check back to my homepage frequently."
The Childrens Health and Safety web site can be reached by clicking here or by clicking on the new web site icon located on the senator's homepage. The web site provides detailed information on the progress of the Task Force and is designed to give parents, educators and child health and safety advocates useful information about helping keep children healthy and safe. The web site will be updated throughout the hearing process with new ideas for legislation, programs, brochures, video clips and other information based on the ideas generated at the hearings.
The launch of the web site coincided with the Task Forces first hearing, held in Albany, to gather information and input from experts in their field in order to expand and build on the Senates efforts to strengthen New Yorks child protection laws. At the hearing, testimony from expert witnesses supported the Task Forces mission and focused on the need for new approaches to prevent child abuse, including increased education for parents, caregivers and professionals, the need for new innovative programs such as programs to prevent "shaken baby syndrome," improvements to the current foster care system and other suggestions.
Future hearings are scheduled in Rochester, Dunkirk/Fredonia, New York City and Long Island.
