Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today joined state and local officials in the unveiling of the Emergency Medical Services Memorial at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. The new memorial honors 25 EMS workers who gave their lives in the line of duty.
"Its an honor to take part in the dedication of this memorial to those EMS workers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives in the line of duty," said Senator Bruno. "These brave men and women we are honoring today are a special kind of hero. They respond to the most tragic emergencies in times of crisis and day after day, selflessly put their lives on the line to help save the lives of others."
A "Tree of Life" is featured on the granite memorial. The leaves on the tree are the Star of Life," baring the names of fallen EMS members and their organizations. Twenty five names were added to the memorial. Of those men and women, nine lost their lives during the attacks of September 11th.
"Every member of every EMS agency in New York state should be proud of the professionalism and heroism exhibited by these men and women we honor here today," said Senator Bruno. "This memorial will stand as a testament to the bravery, honor, and dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of the medical front line."
The new memorial will provide a way to make a visible representation of the work and devotion of the more than 57,000 members of EMS.
