Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno and Moreau Town Supervisor Harry G. Gutheil, Jr. today announced $5.4 million in state funds for a water expansion project in the Town of Moreau in Saratoga County.
The project includes the installation of 49,000 feet of water distribution lines that would service the Fernwood area, the Adams Grover area, Route 9 between Reservoir Road to Exit 17, and Route 197 between Route 9 and Gansevoort Road, and would also include the construction of a new water storage tank.
"Drinking water is one of our most precious natural resources and we are committed to doing everything possible to protect it," said Senator Bruno. "This project will give residents the security of knowing they are enjoying a safe water supply, and at the same time, the funding will make it more affordable for the town and taxpayers."
"The Town of Moreau geatly appreciates the continued support of Senator Bruno," said Supervisor Gutheil. "It is very gratifying to see our efforts finally pay off so a greater area of the town can enjoy the safety of public water. This project will also bring additional fire protection to the areas that have had problems in the past with water quality and quantity."
The funds for the Moreau water projects include a $2 million state grant and $3.4 million in a no-interest loan from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, which was established under the 1996 Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act in order to protect public drinking water supplies and provide low-cost funding to communities throughout New York State.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2005.
