Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno announced today that the City of Rensselaer will receive an additional $230,000 spin-up of aid in their 2005 City Fiscal Year (CFY) under a budget bill that will be acted on by the New York State Senate today. Saratoga Springs will also receive an additional $100,000 in state aid.
"The increased aid will give the city of Rensselaer additional funds to help maintain important city programs and services and keep property taxes under control," Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno said. "This action is very important to provide cities under financial distress with additional aid to help meet their needs."
"The City of Rensselaer is facing a very difficult budget year and I'm very appreciative of Senator Bruno's efforts to secure the additional state aid for our city," Rensselaer Mayor Mark Pratt said.
Senator Bruno said the $230,000 in state aid was scheduled to be paid to the City of Rensselaer in March of 2006, but will be moved up to June of 2005 to provide the City with an additional payment in its 2004-05 fiscal year.
Also, the City of Saratoga Springs will receive an additional $100,000 in state aid under the supplemental municipal aid program. Saratoga Springs was one of only seven cities in the state that previously did not receive money from this program that are being added in the new state budget.
"This additional funding is very welcome news for Saratoga Springs and I want to thank Senator Bruno for working to include our City in this program to provide more state assistance," Saratoga Springs Mayor Michael Lenz said.
