Senator Bruno today announced he has secured $50,000 from the 2003-04 state budget for Habitat for Humanity to help support their construction projects in Rensselaer County.
"Under the leadership of Senator Bruno, Habitat for Humanity of Rensselaer County has an outstanding opportunity to expand our mission and help secure decent, affordable housing for low income families in Rensselaer County," said David A. Blackman, President of the Board of Directors for Habitat For Humanity of Rensselaer County. "These funds provide the resources for Habitat to expand our construction efforts and build more houses on an annual basis."
"Habitat for Humanity has done so much for the citizens of Rensselaer County," said Senator Bruno. "Their tireless commitment has provided needy families with six new homes in just six years and with this funding, they will be able to increase their construction capability and provide even more families with the opportunity to own their own home."
Habitat for Humanity of Rensselaer County is committed to strengthening communities and improving housing for all people in need. By using volunteers and donated materials and funds, Habitat for Humanity builds simple, affordable houses which are then sold to families in need at cost with a no-interest, long-term mortgage. All mortgage payments are dedicated to funding construction of additional Habitat houses. In the six years since Habitat for Humanity of Rensselaer County was started, six houses have been built -- four in Troy and two in Castleton.
