Wednesday, October 13, 2004
Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno joined local senior citizens and people from the Rensselaer County Department For the Aging today to unveil a brand new medical van -- fully equipped with wheelchair accessibility to make transportation for senior citizens run smoother. Senator Bruno secured $36,000 in state funds for the van in the 2003-2004 budget.
"Senator Bruno has always shown support for the seniors of Rensselaer County and these funds will allow us to continue caring and providing for our seniors," said Kathy Jimino, Rensselaer County Executive. "On behalf of Rensselaer County and our seniors, I sincerely thank Senator Bruno for his commitment to helping seniors."
"This van will ensure an easier ride for the senior citizens of Rensselaer County," Senator Bruno said. "Traveling from point A to point B with a wheelchair, whether it is to a doctors appointment, grocery store, or anywhere else, is no longer an issue for the seniors countywide. This is such a wonderful opportunity to help meet the needs of each individual who will benefit from the purchase of this van."
The new conversion van seats four passengers, the driver, and can also fit an additional two wheelchairs. It will replace a van used to transport many of the 26,000+ seniors who live in Rensselaer County to medical appointments throughout the Capital Region.
