Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno announced Senate passage of legislation today that will enable the City of Rensselaer to begin the process of building a new, modern school facility while freeing up to 24 acres of valuable property on the Hudson River.
"The children of Rensselaer need and deserve the best school facilities available, and I am proud to announce that this legislation finalizes the deal to build a new school campus and development can now begin," said Senator Bruno. "When fully completed, the new campus will give our children all they need to learn, grow and be successful in a safe environment."
"Of equal importance, the move will open up property for development on the banks of our greatest natural resource-- the Hudson River," continued Senator Bruno. "This will help continue the revitalization of downtown, bring in businesses, create new jobs and keep property taxes under control. This is a tremendous victory for children and families of the City of Rensselaer and a will be a boon to the local and regional economy."
With the Senates final legislative passage, technical corrections will be made to legislation (Ch.669) sponsored by Senator Bruno and signed into law by the Governor in October. The technical corrections embodied in this legislation will better protect the school district, the community and the taxpayers by helping ensure that the project is completed properly, on time and under budget.
The bill will be sent to the Governor.
