Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today announced that he has secured $20,000 in funds from the 2004-05 state budget for Military Mom in Action to offset the cost of postage for care packages the organization mails to members of the military serving overseas.
"Due to the rising cost of postage, it is becoming harder and harder to continue to send care packages to all the soldiers who request them," said Kathy Buckley, President of Military Mom in Action. "We are so thankful to Senator Bruno for his support and for securing these funds so we can continue to send a touch of home to our military men and women serving overseas."
"I commend Military Mom in Action for their commitment to supporting the members of our military serving in the war and overseas," said Senator Bruno. "It is so important that we remember the brave men and women serving our country, especially during the holiday season, and I am honored to be able to help this outstanding organization by providing these funds."
Military Mom in Action is a charitable organization established to send snack items and letters of support and encouragement to men and women in the military. The organization, located in Rensselaer County, sends letters and boxes to over 350 soldiers in fourteen countries around the world.
