COLD WAR RECOGNITION PROGRAM
Dear Friends:
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all those who faithfully and honorably served the United States at any time during the Cold War era to apply for the Cold War Recognition Certificate. The program recognizes all members of the armed forces and federal government civilian personnel who served during Cold War era, which is defined as September 2, 1945 to December 26, 1991.
While this is not a state program, I feel it is important to recognize all individuals who stood ready to serve their country during the Cold War. I believe many people from the First Senate District are eligible for the award and I wanted to make them aware of this special honor.
The Secretary of Defense approved the federal program in the 1998 National Defense Authorization Act. The certificate is available to anyone who provided faithful and honorable service during the Cold War era, including National Guard and Reservists. Those who are currently active military or civilian employees of the U.S. Government are also eligible providing they served at least one day during the Cold War era. The certificate may also be awarded posthumously to those whose relatives apply on their behalf.
Anyone interested in more information on this certificate recognition program may access the U. S. Army's Adjutant General Directorate web site through the links attached below.
I believe that all individuals who safeguarded our freedoms deserve special recognition and am pleased to bring this program to the attention of the people of the First Senate District.
Sincerely yours,
Kenneth P. LaValle
State Senator
